Dental Plans Are The Most Important Benefit, Say Employees

When considering which benefits to offer their employees, company leaders should bear in mind recent research that highlights the rising popularity of dental plans.

According to two surveys conducted by Denplan, dental plans are viewed by employees as the most important benefit in terms of company support for their health and wellbeing. And with high dental costs and potentially expensive treatment, the finding perhaps comes as little surprise.

The Denplan Health and Wellbeing Survey 2014 found that 62% of employees would consider a dental plan if they were offered one, and 56% reported that they would appreciate it as part of an overall benefits package.

Furthermore, it was also found that while 51% of large companies currently offer a dental plan to their employees, 46% are actively considering adding one to their staff benefits packages within the next year.

The findings indicate that 84% of employers believe that a dental plan shows they care about employees. But as well as this, there are some positive statistics that directly benefit the employer themselves; 66% of employers believe that a dental plan helps to retain existing employees, whilst 68% feel that it helps to reduce staff absence. These can both help to reduce the costs associated with staff turnover and sick leave.

Similarly, a Denplan infographic shows that almost a third (31%) of candidates are attracted to an employer offering a dental plan; this can help companies to attract the best possible talent.

Speaking to dentistry.co.uk, Colin Perry, corporate channel manager at Denplan, stated:

“It makes sense that dental benefits are rising in popularity as one of the few healthcare benefits that are preventive in their nature.

“Other healthcare benefits focus on helping employees when something goes wrong, but dental plans actively encourage regular attendance at the dentist and the prevention and detection of oral disease.”
