Employee survey reveals Britain´s top employers

A survey conducted by job website Indeed has revealed the top employers to work for in Britain, according to the people who work for them, This Is Money writes.

The survey data consisted of reviews left by UK employees, which was then processed using an algorithm that took into account factors such as the number of reviews, the average rating given and the history of job openings at the company.

Engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce, which is based in Derby and employees 23,000 people across the UK, came out in pole position as the best company to work for. It scored high across the board in terms of job security, career progression, culture, pay and benefits, management style and work-life balance.

American retailer Nike came in second position, while retail company John Lewis came in third place, followed by music and video retailer HMV. Interestingly, the findings reveal that British companies accounted for the majority (13) of the 20 highest-ranking organisations.

Other companies to make it into the top 20 included Pets at Home, Thomas Cook, Unilever, Natwest and Barclays. British Airways and Harrods just missed the top 20, coming in 22nd and 23rd place respectively.

Based on the results, Indeed concluded that flexible working hours, perks, a positive working environment and opportunities to progress were things that the best-performing companies all had in common.

“Benefits and workplace flexibility play an important role in workplace happiness, but they´re not the key determinants of what makes an organisation great,” explains Indeed´s UK managing director, Bill Richards; “For most employees, feeling valued, a positive company culture and quality management matter more.”
