Fidelius Corporate Solutions Charity Golf Day Supporting Bath-based NSPCC Project a Huge Success

Golf DayThe Cumberwell Park Team took the trophy at the event hosted at the Manor House Golf Club, Castle Combe on September 24. The event raised a fantastic £7,000 for the Castle project, an NSPCC centre for local children who have suffered physical, emotional or sexual abuse.

The Castle project team work with Social Services and Education Authorities to take referrals and then help local children through activities, play and one to one therapy sessions.

Bath-based Financial Services company Fidelius Corporate Solutions, looked locally for a chance to make a difference. They were the official sponsors of the Charity Golf Day, and among their duties was the task of inviting key individuals from the local business community, who in turn gave very generously. Fidelius Corporate Solutions also provided and sourced an amazing array of luxury prizes for the auction, which raised £2,500 alone!

Team 2 stepping OutOn the 16th and 17th June, a team of 11 Fidelius Corporate Solutions employees set out on the Caledonian challenge. The route took us from Fort William along the West Highland Way to Ardlui on the shores of Loch Lomond, a total distance of 54miles in 24 hours.

We thank all our friends, family and sponsors who donated generously to our cause and helped us to raise over £4000 for the Scottish Foundation, British Heart Foundation and the NSPCC.

Here’s a quick summary of the event

Team 1 Alan Phillips; Simon Fell and Chris Bence
Team 2 Andy Hopper; Jason Daines; Tracey Daines; Roz Harwood
Support Team: Dave Watts; Trudi Windley; Mark West-Price

The 2 teams set of from the start line, Team 1 at a sprint and Team 2 at a less vigorous pace.

The first 3 stages of the event were tough going but we were determined not to be beaten. We conquered the dreaded devils staircase and following a quick pit stop at the checkpoints we set out toward our first major milestone, checkpoint 3, 30 miles and a Bronze Medal!

As we set off from Checkpoint 3, the sun began to set and everyone started to suffer, the 12 miles to check point 4 seemed a long way in the dark.  Team 1 was losing momentum and both Alan and Chris slowed their pace, leaving Simon to carry on reaching checkpoint 4 nearly 3 hours in front of Team 2.

Team 1 at the start lineCheckpoint 4 was like a huge medical centre, over 1/3 of the participants in the event withdrew at this point, and all of them required treatment. It was here that Chris, Alan, Andy and Roz all decided to retire from the event.  Many thanks to our support team for their care and attention, they were truly magnificent!

Congratulations go to Simon – who finished the event in a very impressive 20hours and to Jason and Tracey who finished in 23 hours 53 minutes.  They had conquered the Caledonian challenge.

Congratulations also go to our support team who also with no sleep provided outstanding support to the weary walkers. Thank You!

The results of the event are as follows

Chris Bence – Bronze Medal (completed 40 miles)

Alan Phillips, Andy Hopper and Roz Harwood – Silver Medal (completed 42 miles)

Simon Fell, Jason and Tracey Daines – Gold Medal (completed 54 miles)
